Borough Market Reflection
This project has helped me to focus on depth of field and how important is to experiment with the light to achieve the best quality photographs. It has also taught me skills I will take with me to my next projects. I became more confident with talking to the public and the owners at the market. If shyness was one of my weaknesses then I wouldn’t be able to find it easy to undertake this project. The first trip to the market was definitely the hardest for me to try communicating with the public and to ask questions that would help with my research because it was very hectic and I could only concentrate on taking photographs and drawings sketches of how the lay out it’s going to be working with the composition of my photographs. The stall owners and the public might of found me very irritating at times. It was really hard not to accidently walk into somebody.
Most of the owners are used to tourists taking photographs of their products but when it comes to more professional equipment they didn’t seemed too happy about it. Every now and then while walking around the market and taking photographs of marvelous food and expensive wine I thought it’s worth actually buying a croissant or fresh vegetables to outsmart the sellers and take more photographs.
The final photographs look exactly how I wanted to look. I’m very pleased with the white balance and the exposure that I managed to set. The only thing that I would change is the front cover. The mistake that I made was focusing on the landscape lay out rather than portrait. I think I should have re-visited the market again at completely contrasting times and compare the light difference. Overall, I’m very satisfied with the outcome.
